I learned today that I...

get thrown offcenter (split, anxious, etc) when it comes to UNKNOWN PROCESSES. The unknown to me is a silent but nutritious energy that I enjoy deeply, for whatever reason (at this time Im not sure) mix the unknown with processes and I become uncomfortable. This is something I will explore.

Did anyone else learn something today about themselves?

I have this under training because this could be interactive, "mental training" if you put effort into it. If not itll just be another gone astray post. Trying something different.

By sharing your new awareness with us you may be helping someone bring light a problem that was once dark (they didnt see it in themselves, unconciousness, etc). We are all different at the periphery but the same at the center so your story may be super beneficial to an onlooker that very likely WILL be able to connect or at least understand...

Dude, you must climb uber-hard to have that kind of post.

come on, show your bravery...alot of you claim to love exposure, well here you go. become exposed...

have to go elsewhere to discuss "mental training" (internal, personal, inwards) because this site just doesnt have enough active participants who want to maximize their own potential and take risks by sharing personal experiences...

keep chatting up peripheral issues...

I do love you guys, hopefully one day youll be at a place where you can answer such simple (doesnt take though, just awareness) questions regularly.

Very esoteric and and interesting idea. I find that I pontificate better over a pint in front of a fire with friends that I shared the learning experience with. To try this over the interwebz just seems like a way to set yourself up for having to dig through the trolls for real responses. Just go to RC.com and see the spam getting posted there . . .

For what it's worth, I haven't learned the WHY yet, but this morning I became and stayed very irritated. Can't point to any specific reason why, but damn some of my employees got more than they bargained for when they did their normal trivial B.S. in front of me and expected me to just continue to ignore it. A little introspection goes a long way, but doesn't always lead to the solution you are looking for.

thoughtfully put Craig. I appreciate you sharing (and your bravery, but pointing that out isnt cool so sorry...).

Your point regarding being around a campfire with friends and having these "deeper" conversations probably sums up alot for others as well.

I appreciate your post Craig.

The unknown to me is a silent but nutritious energy .... I am forever going to start using that phrase anywhere possible.

Not today, but in the past times-gone-by I am learning that fixing the problem is almost never the solution, especially when it comes to people. To quote Mike Clear from this past weekend "Jesus said love your neighbor not fix your neighbor." Like surfing into the broadside of a battleship, my insides are still vibrating from the intensity of that statement. Maybe just maybe I'm starting to 'get it'.

tend to say yes right away when people ask for help and then realize that I don't want to deal with other peoples problems. I end up doing it feeling resentful and frustrated, I want to blame them for not handling their own shit. I know that I am to blame for my suffering because I said yes outwardly but inwardly I am saying no.

I want to help people but have my own shit to deal with too. I need to get better at saying no or else truly say yes to something and not let my mind take over with negativity, cutting me off from the life force. Bringing the awareness to this is key but some things take a while to change. When all else fails it's time to hit the ganja.

have alot more darkness to bring to light.

need to build the framework of/in my mind. I find myself witnessing a blank/dull mind. when i reach a blank wall (no flow, static) in my mind (think dead end, "I dont see a way past", etc) I need to visualize/create a way to keep with the flow. Sometimes via accecptance, etc, sometimes by physically(?) creating the visualization of the solution in my mind (im newer to this awareness and I dont know how to convey this easily)

am not nice always, nor do i always want to be. I want to kick and scream and spray my opinion like most others (sometimes) but am too afraid to have people not like me. I am a human and I care about other humans and their opinions, I still dont understand why I care about you, or you or you (yes you) and your opinion but I do.

I will be climbing until I literally cant. I took my nastiest fall yet this past weekend, flipped, smacked head against wall, etc and I enjoyed the ride TOTALLY. No fear, no regrets just enjoyed the unknown moment, hands down one of the most paradoxical/grooviest situations Ive experienced (the fall itself, the fact I was 3 pitches up already and the exposure with the view). My love for this lifetsyle, sport, meditation, therapy and/or anything else climbing can be deepened greatly and I have this clear, quality, motivating energy swirling about in me right now.

did you learn something today about yourself? even if not toally new, maybe its reoccuring and has just popped up again today?

I learned that I need to climb with more commitment and learn to trust myself more

Not necessarily climbing related, but...

It's so easy to remain wrapped up in past mistakes and unknown future outcomes. I read a quote from Alan Watts recently that has served as a daily reminder to focus on the present moment, regardless of the decisions I have made and the daunting uncertainty of what will come next.

“We are living in a culture entirely hypnotized by the illusion of time, in which the so-called present moment is felt as nothing but an infinitesimal hairline between an all-powerfully causative past and an absorbingly important future. We have no present. Our consciousness is almost completely preoccupied with memory and expectation. We do not realize that there never was, is, nor will be any other experience than present experience.”

I imagine this can also be related to climbing (for example, to the process of projecting a route).

i learned today that down climbing efficiently is really hard. I was trying to reverse a twist lock and couldn't get it down. Upon introspection it is interesting that i place so little emphasis on a skill that has kept me out of dangerous situations more than once. I make me think, why do we lower at all? is down climbing less fun? or is it something that we suck at and we don't want to work our weaknesses? or do we just go up because that is what we have always done?

today i learned that friends aren't mandatory to 'survival' but they do give it meaning.

I've learned(multiple times) that coming back to climbing after a long break is VERY humbling, especially while climbing while others are watching.

What is 'real'? How do you define 'real'?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
