How's the 'Dream Weaver' ?"

Thinking about the 'DreamWeaver' on Meeker weekend 21-22. Anyone been up this year? We were hoping for some good iced up conditions, and not just another snow trudge like the 'BellCord' last weekend. If you have been up in previous years, what time of the month was best? Thanks for your help in advance. EW

In my experience if you climb alpine couloirs this time of year in Colorado, they will always be snow or neve. There may be some snow transitioning to ice, but all too soon everything melts. Routes tend to be iciest the later in the summer they are done, but at some point most become melted out rubble chutes.

I prefer to go early (May/June) as opposed to late (July/Aug). Snow climbing may be a slog but the glissading and skiing can't be beat compared to rubble trudges.

On some routes there is a time window in Oct/Nov where it snows up high, but is just warm enough to melt and refreeze. This is a good time for ice on Alexander's Chimney on Longs, for example. After that it stays below freezing all the time up really high, and the ice only gets thinner. But down lower it gets thicker.

No darkstar. We went up with intent to do that but no dice. Alexanders looked only partly in still.
Here is marthas that same day. In great shape as well.

The window as of yesterday looked pretty good and the way to go if you want a good challenge. Broadway above the north chimney showed no signs of anyone poking around so you could be the first. As of saturday Alexanders looked ok on the bottom pitches and wet up top. Yesterday while on top of Chasm View Wall I saw lots of things coming down Alexanders. It was really hot outside. Could be hit or miss. I attmepted Ship's Prow ice on Saturday and got up right under the ice/roof (about 1 pitch up) and it looked ok. We were up there a little too late and the very top was takng sun and worried me. If you get an early start it might go.

I did make it up there. I only wish that I had an extra day so that I could have given the window a shot. My partner had something come up so we had to bail on monday. I hope to be up there in august to get on the Diamond.
Thanks for the heads up on things.
