Description

Rock along Highway 14a doesn't get much attention- Ten Sleep is just on the other side of the mountain, and the eastern Big Horns have seen quite a bit of development as well. In any case, if you have pads and are traveling through, it is still worth a stop in the summer where it's too hot to climb elsewhere. There is also EXCELLENT fishing up along the North Tongue and smaller creeks so bring your flyrod.

Most of the climbing is at around 7000-8000ft in elevation, so plan on thunderstorms early afternoon and the occasional snowstorm in the summer. Unless you're at Big Willow, expect lots of sun.

Quality of the rock ranges from spot to spot, with some being of impeccable quality, similar to the Cabin Boulders in Lander.

Getting There

Most of the boulders sit around Little Bald and Duncum Mountains.
From I-90, exit at Ranchester and follow Highway 14 west up into the Big Horns. At Burgess Junction, continue west onto Highway 14a.

From Cody, head up through Powell and into Lovell where you'll begin the STEEP drive up the west side of 14a.
