Highlining in NH

First off I would like to preface this by saying if any administrators believe this is in the wrong section feel free to move it. Although this is not specificly climbing related it is specific to the region and there for felt justified puting it here.

With that said...

Has anyone looked into highlines in nh? I have been scoping places out reacently and just this past month have been making a hard push to put some places together. I would love to know the communities reaction or other ideas the community has for spots that I might not have thought of. Also this is a reach out to any other slackliners/highliners that either have expirience or would like to join me in my endevor to grow this aspect of climbing in the community of NH.

you could put up a high line from cannon mtn. over to mt. lafayette, that would sick.

Mike Thompson · · Manchester NH · Joined Jan 2007 · Points: 460

Haha that would be a pretty sick line...although the amount of gear and cost of said gear would be a little much. ( about 10,000ft of webbing, 15,000ft of static rope and enough pullies to make a 20:1 pulley system) also because the longer the line the more tention it needs (1300ft long line needs dinamometer to make sure you don't break any of the pieces in the system) you would need gear that could hold upwards of 75,000lbs.

So... Cool idea not really possible

Tom Burt and friends set up, and walked, a short highline on Cathedral 10+ years ago. Between the Peanut Gallery Flake and the top of the ledge to the west. Can't vouch for the quality, but they sure had fun.

Jason, that was a place I was thinking of along with some other spots. There are a couple people I am in contact with for setting one up on cannon between Whitney G and the main wall.

Also the yellow Wall to Camber,, previously done via canoe. How about Sundown ?

Quechee Gorge (VT)

Ryan, the eaglet is deffinately a spot I was thinking of but the anchoring on the main cliff I'm not sure...john I talked to lee about the canoe spot.

The place I am most psyched about is summit cliff at rumney over the gully that the rope goes up.

Also- Roger's Spire at Woodchuck, not that big, but cool.

How about some of the ice lines at Frank's ? maybe over hobbit couloir ?

how bout over the flume gorge? or from pinnacle buttress over pinnacle gully?

Concord Quarry...not super high...but no tie in necessary

Mike Thompson · · Manchester NH · Joined Jan 2007 · Points: 460

I just looked at Quechee gourge. WOW! a really cool place would be between the trussels under the bridge itself. A really aesthetic line indeed. pinnical buttress looks a little far but maybe some other gullies on mt Washington. I don't know where frank's is or hobbit couloir but I'm up for anything.

So I checked out rumney and the summit cliff idea didn't pan out. BUT between yellow knife and the monolith did! here are some photos with photoshopped lines in them. the spot looks pretty amazing and any and all who want to join are welcome to come. I will post when I am going to set it up

Highline at rumney

Two possible lines

Hey guys,
I'm new to this site, and this area for that matter. I've been in Boston for about a year and barely know the climbing areas as I've spent most my free time slacklining. I have a full highline rig and experience rigging and establishing highlines, but I'm in need of spots. I scouted Cathedral a while back and decided it wasn't a very good spot (sloping ledge, not much for anchors without bolting, very public which isn't necessarily a problem but not ideal).

I scouted the top of Whitney Gilman a while back and think that there's possibly a 50-ish footer and a 200-ish line possible, though would be a lot of work to rig.

I haven't scouted Eaglet yet personally but I've been considering it from pictures and a friend's advice. The photos you posted have potential as well. Have you tried to rig them? Hard to tell from these shots, what length are you thinking they are?

Let me know. I'm serious about finding lines around here. We rigged a midline at Quincy recently, beautiful 120ft line, 40ft high. Looking for some more exposure though, and a shorter clean line for beginners.

Mike it's not NH but have a spot here in VT in Stowe that would be about a 40 or 50ft line over a 100+ foot water fall that has bft on both sides and drops straight off on the edges with a rad spot that would make some great photos. It's not a far hike like 10min and though its on public land not to many people venture out there especially week days. I'll try and dig some photos up

Read,
That sounds awesome! I would love to see some photos to check this place out! burlington might be a bit of a hike but I would check it out if the place was good enough. and if this is Read from Read and Taylor then it would be nice to see you again!

Sonya,
I believe you have walked the line nick and I have already set up and you are good friends with him. This line would be way more fun with fare more exposure. We haven't set it up yet but the only thing holding us back is bolts. I can buy them at a cheaper rate through the gym I just have to get the money together to get them. I would love to set it up this fall before the winter hits though. shoot me an email and we can talk more mthopmson2100@gmail.com

Ah, Mike. You're the friend/coworker he talks about then? Yeah I've walked that one Nick showed me on a couple occassions. It spooks the hell out of me taking newbies there though, with the clutter of trees and underhanging edges. Sending you an email. :)

Said waterfall

Tree anchors

The first photo shows the fall the distance above is probably similar to Pulpit rock. And both sides have similar set ups with tree anchors. I havn't been out there in a while but now that the leaves have fallen off it might be easier to get better shots of the set up with out the leaves. And yeah Read of Read and Taylor ha ha

Read, is that the same place as the photo below? Next to Smuggs?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
