Joel airing it out on the Backside Arete (5.11d), ...

Description

Short and steep is what to expect at this "hidden" wall that sits just north of the popular Hueco Wall and gets early morning sun and afternoon shade.

The routes here tend to be somewhat technical and a little less pumpy than at some of the other crags making this a good wall to try for that elusive onsight.

Recommended climbs here include the Backside Arete (5.11d), King of all Media (5.11d) and Let's Kung Fu (5.12b).

Getting There

Park across from Crossfire Crag in a parking area atop a small rise and walk left to come in on the right side of the wall. Alternately you can approach as for the Hueco Wall and then head left (north) via a trail.

This route is the best one on this wall. It starts in the middle of the wall and climbs thru a series of underclings, side pulls and crossovers to the obvious left leaning crack which is followed to the anchors. .....OH??? and I almost forgot... There is a HAND JAM!!!!...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

This short wall is a good place to go on a warm day, it is always chilly there, hence the name The Meat Locker.

There is also a 40' boulder traverse to the left of the routes, called "The DOA". It can/has been used, to get more pumped, as a start to the "Back From The Dead".
