Just moved to Denver from FL with my gf, don't really know anyone out here or the area too well.. I have a bit of experience sport climbing and really want to get on some routes, but not sure where to go? Also I'm very open to bouldering, but again, don't know where to go? Good guide books? Advice?? Halp!!
For sport climbing there is Clear Creek Canyon by Golden, Boulder Canyon by Boulder, Shelf Road (a bit further) near Canon City. For trad there is Eldo and Boulder Canyon. I am not into bouldering so I can't help you there. As far a guide books goes, for Colorado you can pretty much pick an area and there is a guide book. Most at nice with color photos and route descriptions. Since you are in Denver, I recommend going to REI for the book section and browse around. There is a book dedicated to Eldo, to Boulder Canyon, Shelf Road, Clear Creek, South Platte, RMNP, North Table Mountain. A couple publishers are Sharp End and Fixed Pin. Go to their respective websites to see a good list of the guide books they publish. Also, use the route guides on here. Welcome to Denver.
Depending on how hard you climb can influence where you climb big time. If you crush hard boulder problems for breakfast then head to rmnp on the weekends. If your looking to have fun on easier stuff then head up flagstaff mountain or guenella pass.
There are some good easy problems at cool places like rmnp but they aren't really paid attention to so you have to seek them out. If I remember correctly there was a few really cool easy ones in moraine park and estes YMCA.
I cant help you out with spot climbing though sorry!
Out of towner looking to get on some rock, ANYTHING! I'd love to solo flatirons with someone or rope climb. Call or text (530) 945-6577, I'll be in boulder at 8am tomorrow (saturday) :)
