Helium Friends
|
Anyone out there been using the new Helium Friends/ taken a fall on them. I have a set but have yet to take a fall on one. Just wondering how you feel. |
|
I took a fall on the #4. They feel super bomber to me. |
|
Ditto, I took a 15ft whip on the HF 1.0. it held, I really like them. |

Why does it matter that 2 people on the interwebs fell and a cam did it's job at least minimally? A cam of virtually any manufacture will hold in a good placement (with a few possible exceptions due to poor manufacturing standards). A cam "failing" is the result of user error and/or some unforeseeable circumstances, not the cam make. |

What actually does matter is the difference in failure modes (how it performs when torqued, metal too hard/soft, cam angle, etc) and other features (range, spring stiffness, stem stiffness, length, trigger functionality, durability, weight, etc).+1 |

Well, Aside from the fact that the cam did its job. I realy like the strong springs, I have not had any poblems with walking even whithout a runner on it. THe camming angle is supposed to be the 13.75 but the lobes have about a third more range than a tech freind. the cam I fell on was at more less then 50% closeure but the shape of the lobes made it look pretty good. The anodised coating is pretty thick, so it might be a problem on slick rock types. but no problems in granite so far. the long sling and thumb loop are great features that make the cam a more solid competor against BD/DMM cams than tech friends. the Weight saveings are minimal. 4% in some sizes is nothing to brag about. I Like these cams the make a good second set that fits between BD's sizing or great as a first set. however you should if i were buying again I would only buy hand sizes and nothing else. the small cam market has better cams but for hands up to four I think these are as good or better than anything out there. |

I wrote a review about them last fall... they rock. Did fall on a few and they worked fine, just like any other cam will when placed correctly. |

Its what they are claiming in a video and in practice it seems to hold true. I at least have not track out or slip when they are more openly palced. One negative note that i forgot until now. they tend to over cam in the smaller sizes. |

Killis Howard wrote:Anyone know how they match up sizewise to the Tech Friends? Are they still making those or did the Heliums replace 'em?The Heliums, if I'm not mistaken, were resized in order to get rid of the quarter sizes. They have a more consistent overlap. I can't compare them in hand though, so... Heliums replaced tech friends. Can't buy tech friends anymore. If anybody finds a 0 and 00 I'd like to hear about it. Edit to ad: The wild country website says no more quarter sizes and the head has been redesigned for greater range. |
