Heard a "click" in my knee, now very sore

whilst crushing le yellow route- a nouveaux-classique in the bouldering area at the BRC - i had my left lege in a heal hook- and torqued my knee away from my body to gain leverage while reaching for the next hold

At that point i heard a click/snap sound, and a sharp pain in the ligament in the anterior knee area, on the lower portion of the leg (leading towards foot), but at the knee.

2 weeks later, still sore, any attempt towards stretching that way (think, figure 4 type movement) is rather painful.

Thoughts? I suppose this'll just heal in a matter of weeks, months/years, but curious if people have similar experience or can venture a guess at the manner of injury.

No i didn't go to the doctor as i really only feel it now doing similar moves in climbing or yoga. can still run/walk climb.

LOL, I guess a knee qualifies as climbing gear!

The patellar tendon connects the base of the patella to the tibia and is anterior. If you have tenderness to touch in this band near the surface, it is likely the tendon. The anterior cruciate ligament is a bit deeper inside under the knee cap. laxity testing by trained hands could potentially find anterior cruciate damage. See a professional.

Tendon injuries are a beeatch! Patellar tendonitis put an end to my ski patrol career.

This could possibly be an LCL, as the way you describe it sounds similar to what I was doing when mine went..I've now tweaked both LCL's, and have had to give up certain heel hooks that cause pain in the area. They do improve with time, and I am able to climb effectively. Funny, but both were done Indoors!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
