HCR and Sams throne info

I was wondering what the closest place to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch is to pick up the Arkansas Rock guidebook? I plan on getting the E-book for HCR, but also want to pick up the full guide once I get there this weekend. How does the Arkansas rock book from boston mountain press compare with the Cole Fennel book? Also, I am sure it is covered in the guide, but any recommendations for camping or other info for a first timer down there?

Thanks for any help

For the guide, try Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville. As for camping, you can stay at HCR for $5 a night per head, or camp at Sam's Throne for free.

I think they sell the Cole book at hcr...it is a great book and worth the money.

Camping is cheap and good at hcr.

There are new pit toilets at sams but no water.

Have fun!

If you are going through Springfield MO., stop in at Dynamic Earth. Awesome staff and nice climbing shop with attached heath food store.

The Cole Fennel book is the only way to go- it has me spoiled, I hate using other books when I go on trips. As far as camping, Sam's has much nicer sites than HCR, but like wankel said, there's no running water. The water at HCR does taste like sulphur though, and camping is $5 a night per person.

That is a good point...the camping spots are much much nicer at Sams.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
