After researching what kind of cams I want to start buying on outdoorgearlab.com I decided to go with BD X4's paired with C4's. I looked at the bottom of the review page to see where I can find a good price and according to outdoorgearlab.com it shows that mountaingear.com has the best price. And they do significantly, although I don't see how they can undersell by so much. They want $56 for a .75 X4 compared to the $74 most other places want.(saving me almost $40 for the 2 I want) The next best price I found was $63. So then I looked at reviews of mountaingear.com and got lots of mixed reviews and too many bad ones for my liking. That being said I noticed that most of the bad reviews (with a few exceptions) were with people buying clothing and footwear and that may not really mountaingear's fault if the stuff doesn't fit the way people expected. And there are enough good reviews to give hope they wouldn't send the wrong cam... Has anyone had experience buying climbing gear from these people?

(They are located on the east coast in the U.S.)

No issues ever with them. I've bought a splitboard, a couple pieces of climbing gear, and some clothing.

Not really sure which Mountain Gear you're thinking of, but Mountain Gear that the link points to is in Washington state.

I have found them to be excellent. I have been buying stuff from them for at least 15 years, maybe more without any problems. Their deals are top notch when they have sales; I've taken advantage of them myself.

....id also say that most of the complaints, in addition to being people who order North Face fleeces that don't fit, are people on the east coast complaining about shipping times. Which probably is quite slow coming from Spokane.

I've purchased cams from them before, no problems for me at all. I'd jump on those prices quick, I think it's a anniversary sale, doesn't last too much longer.

I purchased a pair of shoes on a great deal and received it in a timely manner.

Yeah i didn't find much on how long this sale lasts, but I will take your word for it.

Literally the only problem I've ever had with them, after about a decade of shopping with them, is that they use the US Postal Service's address validation software, which chokes on slashes in an address. So "404 1/2"? Couldn't process my credit card. "404 AND A HALF"? No problems.

56 is still less than wholesale price. I think all my X4 i got for 45ish. I know alot of people who work at gyms and normally can get gear really cheap.

If you search around you can often find a $15 off orders over $75 coupon for mountain gear as well.

Sorry I would have, but I had already ordered by then.

and @ SpencerB I tried getting some various coupon codes to work with no luck. However I still did save just over $100 with 5 cams I ordered. Still fairly happy with what I spent.

I haven't had a great experience with them - mountaingear.com has issues with keeping their inventory updated. An example is that quickdraws I ordered were not in stock even though the receipt estimated a ship date of 2 days later. When I called a week later to check on their status, it turned out there was a 2 month wait to get them. Would have been nice if they had informed me of this so we could get them elsewhere.

I also had trouble using the email to resolve the issue but when I called, the customer service rep was helpful and cancelled the order. Long wait though of 10 minutes.

They're a small shop based out of Spokane. They don't have the customer service or IT resources that a larger outfit like backcountry does.

I've always had good experiences with them. Good selection, good prices, reasonable and fast shipping and plus you're supporting a small business!

Paul Fish owns Mountain Gear, runs it out of eastern WA, and has for decades.
I've bought plenty of stuff from them, with one problem in about 20yrs, where one of the items was out of stock, so they didn't ship it (but still charged me for it, and said it was backordered and would ship when they got it) and then charged me for shipping when my original order was high enough to get free shipping.

That wasn't right, and possibly illegal. I called them, and got a combative little shithead "customer service" (it wasn't service) rep, a 20-something male, basically tell me "too bad". So I jumped over him, to reach an actual adult, and they immediately corrected the problem. So maybe 30 orders, one small mistake, one jerkoff phone lackey, and rapid correction of the problem. Good track record to me.

I've also met Paul in the Valley before, and he's good people. Treat their employees well too from what I've heard.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
