Description Suggest change

This is the large expanse of little-trodden land west of Redrocks. It begins from roughly the eastern shore of Haskell Pond and continues until Southern Ave in Essex. As such, it abuts Agassiz Rocks and the 128 Boulder on one corner and the Pipeline Boulders and Redrock (including the satellite areas) on the other.

The large area contains several good-sized blocks, many slabby outcrops, and several small groups of boulders. Given the topography and the dense woodland, these can be difficult to locate and tend to be quite dispersed. There is evidence of previous bouldering and undoubtedly undiscovered blocks.

This area is wilder than Redrock. Beyond the pond, the area is largely the domain of mountainbikers, off-roaders, and hunters. Alcohol and guns occasionally mix in here, and it is likely that not all of the hunting occurs within official season. Also, unlike Redrocks, much of the land on the western side is in Essex, and some of it may be on private property. For the most part, however, the boulderer intrepid enough to venture out here will likely be very much alone.

Getting There Suggest change

This is large tract of public woods with multiple access points.  The easiest legal ones are:

From the west: at Aggasiz Rocks on School St. in Manchester/Essex off 128 exit 15 Ann.  This is a Trustee property and parking is just off the road on the right (off 128) passed the fruit stand and across from the larger parking area for the Manchester Essex  Conservation Area.
From the east:  at Forest St. off 133 in West Gloucester.   There is new parking here and a kiosk with trail information.   Make sure to park at the pull of on the right and do not block the gate.  To access the boulders head down road through the gate.  This is also a back way into Redrocks.  Parking here used to be technically illegal but the town seems to encouraging it now.
