Description Suggest change

Hartley Springs is a relatively new bouldering discovery, and adds some good quality problems to the area. The area is composed of several sections scattered through a Jeffrey pine forest and the majority of the boulders sport flat pumice landings.

The rock is volcanic tuff and really good quality. You'll find the typical pockets, but there are also slots and the odd crack. A few of the problems are a little crunchy, but they are cleaning up as more people discover the area.

There is a good selection of problems covering all grades, however if you are climbing in the V5-V9 range you are spoilt for choice.

A good place to start is the Warm Up Area.

Given the altitude this is a spring to late fall climbing venue. All the boulders are easily accessed and none are more than 10 minutes easy walk from the parking area.

Getting There Suggest change

From Mammoth Lake head north on the 395. From June Lake Junction head south on the 395. Turn west 1/2 mile south of the June Lake junction - the Pumice Mine Road is on the east of the highway at this point.

Head west and at the first intersection (after .1 mile) head straight on. After another .1 of a mile take the right fork and head up the dirt road towards the Harley North firewood area.

Follow the road as it climbs steadily for 1.1 miles. You will come to an obvious parking area. The road continues rightwards towards June Lake, but you will head straight on following a narrower trail.
