Description 

A scenic top roping crag on Rabbit Ears Pass, this area provides many easy routes making it a good spot for beginners. There are also some harder routes and for the spicier folks some potential for highball bouldering.

On the climber's right is the first face, a rock that sports two anchors at the top. These climbs range from 5.5 to 5.7. The next set of bolts you'll encounter while moving left are on the rock that is reached by following the other branch of the trail (see "Getting There"). These bolts serve the chimney/flake (5.6) and the arete (5.8). Around the corner is a funky offwidth to slab climb (5.7) and then around the corner again and up the hill is a layback route (5.7) and the "Z-crack" (5.6). The offwidth/slab climb has its own anchor while the Z-crack and the layback share an anchor.

Getting There 

The crag is a very short walk from a pullout on Rabbit Ears. Finding the pullout may be the hardest part. To get there, head east on US Hwy 40 to Rabbit Ears Pass. You'll see many pullouts and driveways on the right as you ascend the pass, but the pullout you're looking for sports a large asphalt shoulder (clearly wider than the normal shoulder) which is adjacent and connected to an even larger dirt pullout. It's very wide and about 200 yards long. The best landmark here is the giant dirt/gravel pile with grass growing out of it in the pullout itself. From the heart of Steamboat (5th and Lincoln), the pullout is right around 10 miles. Drive to the far edge of the pullout where the forest starts and look for a medium sized grey rock (think flat screen tv) that marks the trail. Start down this trail and you'll quickly see the rocks, with trails that branch off to the anchors. To get to the belay areas, follow the main trail until it splits into two trails. Each branch will take you to a main belay area.
