Happy Island as seen from Escher Wall

Description

This area is new for Mountain Project, and is just getting started. Feel free to contribute!
Warning : stainless-steel bolts are suspect near the coast. There is extensive rebolting being done to replace suspect bolts with titanium glue-ins.

A beautiful little island with a dozen or so quality climbs. Getting there is half the fun. Views back to the mainland are great. Shade all day.

Getting There

From Phra Nang Beach, it's the obvious island about 150 yards out to sea. At low tide, you'll only be up to your knees or slightly higher. You can also grab a long-tail boat for a buck or two.

This climb was near my limit of ability and had my attention with the exposure and sharp rock features. My partner lowered me to the beach and I belayed her from there. From Phra Nang beach, headed over to Happy Island. This was two weeks after the tsunami - it will be a lucky person if they ever see this beach this empty again.

What's the access issue? I'd assume it has something to do with that exclusive resort that won't let you drink at their bar?

No access issue. Just scary looking bolts.
