I am building my own using T nuts. My board is about 30" long and about 12" high. My question is about t nut spacing both vertically and horizontally. My other question is is it better to have 4 levels vs 3. I am thinking about 3 inches hprizontal spacing starting 2 inches in from the sides. Not sure if I should leave 1 or 2 inches on the top and bottom.

OMG, I winz!!!
If you're building your own, why not just put the holds on the board that you want and they fit nicely. There are tons of holds on my metolius board I never use.

If you need a different hold later just drill another hole, it's not like we're talking about a big deal?

just either buy some different sized metolius campus rungs or make some from hardwood from your local hardware store. cut them to the size you want, sand em to smooth em out and round the edge a bit. attach to desired backboard with screws.

The reason I want to use t nuts is I can change it up pretty easily and use some system holds from atomik. I do plan on making holds as well. But I just want the ability to change a hold pretty quickly without having to drill a new hole

I thought about the doing the same thing. But I can't bolt one into any wall dueto renting restrictions. I just got a Blank Slate from blankslateclimbing.com and I have some Atomik system holds and tiles on the way so I can change it up. The blank slate uses t-nuts and can accept any bolt-ons. Atomik climbing has a really good section on building your own system board and wall.
