Hi all, I will be heading to Europe in a couple weeks on my honeymoon. The last 5 days of the trip will be in Barcelona and I really want to get at least a day of cragging in. My wife doesn't climb much and this isn't a climbing trip so I don't want to spend a lot of time hunting for good crags or partners.
This will be my first trip overseas so the simpler the better. Does anyone have experience with a guide service in the Barcelona area? Is there any good climbing near beaches in this area? I haven't climbed on limestone in quite some time, but I'd guess my red point ability would be 10+/11-.
Just got back from there last week & while we didn't need any guide services there's quite a bit of climbing near Barcelona. Monserrat is just 45 minutes from town and has conglomerate routes up to 10 pitches & some crags that get shade. I'm sure some of the larger local shops can steer you towards guide services.
Hi Luke, I have a friend that guides in the Barcelona area. There is a cool limestone crag near the beach nearby but it will be awfully sunny and warm although that may not bother you. If you would like my friend's name, send me an email.
I second the Monserrat idea. Marc and I climbed Puigmal, a multipitch trad route (5.11 A1) up a cool huge pinnacle. Lots of short sport routes and long trad routes. My fave area, only a few hours away, is Riglos. It is accessible by train or your guide...
Thanks for the feedback, great suggestions all around that I will investigate further. Manuel, email sent for your friend's contact info. I am primarily a trad climber myself, but won't be hauling my whole rack over for a non-climbing trip.
