Added friction, like the 'Lizard says: biner on the leg loop--this is what my 80lb 13yo son does when he lowers me.

Ultimate Friction? add another biner to the belay loop & run the rope from the GriGri to the leg loop biner, then back up to the 2nd belay loop biner.

Use 2 Petzl Ange's and a William as your biners, and its still cheaper than a Freino, and much more flexible.

I like your thinking Matt...have you considered the transcendent friction option...second grigri on your leg loop? better back that up off a munter on your shoelace

You can obviously do this with another carabiner in the belay loop. I use the GriGri a lot and opted to buy the Freino carabiner which has proven to be more than worth it for many applications.
