I'm heading out on a road trip possibly to the Tetons in the next couple weeks. I would love to climb some of the routes including Mt. Moran and the Grand. I see there are some multi-pitch and am interested in up to 5.7, though I can climb harder. Is there anyone who is familiar with these routes & comfortable leading who would like to partner up for a climb with me?
I'll be in the Devil's Tower area the weekend of June 23rd for a wedding and would to climb the tower or Black Hills for a few days afterward. I lead trad up to 11a but into moderate classics too. I've spent time in the Tetons, but wont be able to make it out for time restrictions this trip. Glad to give any beta on those Grand etc. if needed.
Devil's Tower - possibly Durance, Pending Patent, and Bon Homme Variation? Says Durance is in the top 50 North American classics, so that could be a really cool one. Don't know too much about Black Hills. What are the climbs like? Also, coming from climbing in the Tetons & City of Rocks, I may up my skills by then. Having climbed a handful of 5.9s & some 5.10s over the years of growing up, I'm focusing on getting in mostly 5.7 and 5.8 climbs this summer of really getting into it on my own to be sure to stay within my ability level. It sounds like you would be quite capable and interesting to climb with.
For sure! The classics that you mentioned are what I am interested in doing. I'll only have 2 or 3 days to climb, but that is plenty of time to get those routes in. The Black Hills are shorter spires, ran out protection, and crystal like features for holds. In other words, awkward. That said, it sounds like a cool place, but I prefer longer routes if they are an option. Sounds like a session on the tower would be a good fit for you as well. Great! My e mail is garrettpeabody@gmail.com. If agreed, lets touch base on dates and go from there.
