Hey All,

Seeing as most of the places with good climbing tend be out cell phone service range or at best in shoddy service, I'm looking for recommendations on a good book containing comprehensive instructions, illustrations, and explanations/purposes for climbing knots. I would like to take one with me for both my own reference and to help as a teaching guide with new climbers.

Thanks for all you help!

I think the new AMGA SPI manual is just about the most complete and clear text for knots and rock climbing specific systems. amazon.com/Rock-Climbing-Si…

Thanks for all of the great recommendations. I went ahead and ordered a copy of Freedom of the Hills, but the other two looked like great options too. Might pick up Knots & Ropes for Climbers later, as the first might be a bit big/heavy to carry around all of the time.

Thanks again - scc

The SPI book is good. Another set of books that are really good are the Expert series by the mountaineers. there are several including "From Gym to Crag", "How to Rock Climb", and "Climbing Anchors" they are all excellent resources.

Falcon Guide's The Complete Guide to Rope Techniques is the size of a small guidebook.
