The long awaited Cochise Stronghold Guidebook has been started.

This guidebook will give you the information you have always wanted and answer your questions: What is the name of that route?  How hard is that one over there? Do I need double ropes?

Have you always wanted to road trip here but didn't know what to climb?
Maybe you have done all the classics! I guarantee you there are hundreds of pitches left to explore.  Some without second ascents!  And they are NOT all hard or scary. Do you dream of 6 pitch 5.11- mixed routes? Not only will your options open up but you will no longer get lost or intimidated by the vastness of the region.

Help us produce this full color, high quality guidebook by pre-purchasing your copy and ensuring you will be the first one on those climbs.

GO TO OUR WEBSITE: COCHISECLIMBING.COM

There you can start to see the original hand drawn topos that I have files of to create this one of a kind book. www.cochiseclimbing.com

Looks cool. I thought that Geir was putting together a guide. Is that still in the works or was it ever?

This guidebook is being put out by Trundlestone Productions and being written by myself and Scott Ayers.
What I am offering here is the chance to help us get to you the most accurate route information and a quality guidebook for this area from someone who has climbed continually in the Cochise Stronghold for 30 years. This book will include first hand knowledge from repeat ascents of many of the old classics and first ascentionist knowledge for hundreds of other pitches in the Stronghold. Why now?

He has been collecting information for 3 decades the time is right! And he has a wife that is motivated to get the job done.

I would buy this book, its the best way to support the guy spending all the time and money. The last week I spent in AZ Mr Ayers name was associated with over half of the routes I did, possibly more.

I would love to see a comprehensive guidebook to the area.

Although the fact that the website is rife with broken links, typos, and old hand-drawn topos - and that it lacks concrete info on the book itself - isn't exactly confidence inspiring.

What is the ETA on the guidebook?

Thanks for the feedback Josh,

Since I have not done a website before could you let me know which links are broken? I only found one typo "straightening" but please let me know where the others are.

The old topos are how Scott recorded many routes he put up or repeated. I personably think the old topos are nostalgic and I wanted to share them with people. but thanks for bringing that up as I would like to let people know that there will be proper vector drawings for the guidebook.
By the way, if anyone has routes they would like to submit-please do!

As I know you have climbed many of Scott's routes, I hope you would note how meticulous he is to detail. He will probably take a long time editing this book to ensure there are no errors. Thanks for your feedback.

Eric,

The more I sell, the more work I can pay my graphic artist for, the more work I can pay a copy editor for, the more photo editing I can pay for , the more I can afford to print, the more photos I can get from people…The faster it all will go. This project is exponentially large, I am open to any help.

Yes. It has been underway for some time now. The website for this book is toofasttopos.com.

Cool! Thanks for the reply, Geir. Can you give any info on when your Cochise guide will be available? I have downloaded a few topos from your site and they are great.

Regardless of timing, I am looking forward to both guidebooks!

Thanks NC. I think it will be ready in a few months as I've already put a lot of it together. I'll keep the website updated as it gets closer to release.

Awesome! Cochise Stronghold desperately needs a guidebook. As someone who just loves to climb I'll purchase any and all beta.

I kinda like it without a comprehensive guide book. Only one other party today on the east side.

Scott has been busy for over 30 years putting up routes for us. He has documented every classic climb he has repeated, some numerous times, and every climb he has ever established. What he lacks is technology skills to get this into a book.

So this fall, while cleaning out our filing cabinet, I discovered stacks of topos that had been meticulously cataloging over the years for an eventual guidebook. I had no idea he was so organized or had this much material prepared. For decades people have asked him when we was going to come out with a guidebook. To me, this project has been long coming. It has not just been conjured up to have ill will or compete with anyone and I think people are aware of that.

Every Friday our phone rings with people calling for route information. Every time we are out climbing we are directing people to climbs and they are so excited to just be climbing. These are the people who are motivating us to finally complete a 30 year project.

Theres is an explosion of climbing in the Stronghold so the time has come. Unfortunately, this also means the Stronghold will not stay a little hideaway forever and if people are going to come we want them to be safe and know what is out there- not just another "unknown route L of this".

I have the time, I have the archives, but what I need is the pre-sales to afford to go to print.

I have faith that the people who have bought the book and people who are going to buy the book understand the value in the product. The fact is it is being put out by someone who has given us hours of his time creating climbs and building trail so we can go out every weekend and play speaks volumes. Please support that.

Many of you don't know me but I can assure you, this is the real thing. We are trying to create something that you will use for the next 20 years. Why don't you jump on board too? That is the only way to make it happen.

Behind the flake on the 1st pitch of What's My Line already smells like piss and the holds are chalked up worse than a boulder problem, can't wait for this to happen on more routes down there!!

To accuse anyone involved with either guidebook of wanting big crowds for big book sales, at a cost of damaging the area and turning a profit is laughable to say the least.
I know of very few climbers who donate the hours upon hours not only developing routes, but also organizing the SACC, as Scott and Tanya.
I also know of very few as readily willing, as Geir, to offer free topos, and even free instruction if needed.
To me these sound more like the actions of dedicated climbers who simply love climbing.
Thanks for all the hard work. I look foreword to both guide books.

I'm looking forward to both books. The Stronghold has had some more folks visit since I first did. But it is the nature of things. I am all for more info and I don't think their motivation is to destroy the place but to educate the masses that are on their way.

I wrote the Isolation book and not much has really changed. I can still find myself alone there. Except weekends. I may run into someone else then.

What I am hoping is the book will actually spread people out. Once you find out how many multi pitch safe moderates there are you are going to get very excited!!!!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
