German Climbing Guides

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable climbing guides in Germany. My wife and I are going to be going over there for a couple of weeks, and I was hoping to get a bit of climbing in while there. Unfortunately she doesn't climb, so I'd need to either find a guide, or hook up with some locals. We'll be staying fairly close to the French border, but in theory I'll be pretty flexible with location in and around Germany.

Thanks in advance!

Bergführer, actually. But you don't pronounce any of the r's. Any guide you get in Germany will be reputable, if you mention the region you're heading to somebody might be able to give you a name.

I'd post the question on ukclimbing.com. The Brits naturally go to Europe a lot more than we do and there are likely to be far more people with some knowledge of the guides there.

There´s your normal bergführer who is a full-on alpine guide but there are other categories for rock-climbing etc in the guiding system in Germany. Tell us more exactly where (near France covers a multitude of sins!)and what sort of climbing, not forgetting we are plummeting into winter right now so what´s going on in a couple of weeks who knows!

You can find a list of all certified mountain guides here:
bergfuehrer-verband.de/?Anz…

But if you just want to do some climbing, i rather suggest that you hook up
with some locals. The message boards of the german alpine club
are e.g. a good option ( davplus.de/schwarzes-brett/…, website of the section around munich) to find other climbers.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. And thanks for the tips, MalcomX, I'll look into getting together with some locals a little closer to the trip when we know a bit more about locations. I think we'll be staying in and around Kaiserslautern for most of it (my wife's parents live there), but we may branch out at some point.

Thanks again everyone.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
