What's the most you've given up for climbing? What's the most you've given climbing up for?

Classic climb called Gossamer in the monster area of Rushmore

I gave up an opportunity to make some real cash in Seattle about 3 years ago when I had to decide whether to move to Seattle or Denver, I got a good job here, but more importantly I have great climbing.

I think the concept of sacrifice is kind of odd because all one really does in life is make choices. You can't have everything in life, so you chose the path that makes the most sense to you. If you want a different path, then make different choices, but don't lament about what you don't/didn't do/have if you made the choice you wanted to make.

That's a lot of wives for one guy!

On the flip side, I gained a husband by randomly running into him at the crag one day. Best climbing partner in the world.

No lamentations here; I was just interested what people have sacrificed (or "chosen," if your semantics won't allow it) for climbing, and visa versa. I was all set to take a long break from climbing to start organic farming, and was curious about other people's stories. I don't think anyone's whining about it; on the contrary. We do what we want to.

Chris, no personal attack attended. I was giving my two cents on the subject.

Cheers,

I'm so glad he spelled it right.

Long, painted and manicured fingernails and a few relationships with men who were not climbers. Both were fun while they lasted and even more fun together. meow.

I haven't given climbing up for anything. Yikes.

Tracy, I almost choked on my apple reading your post, dangit, that "meow" was just too funny.

The most I've given up are my fear of heights and women who meow.

Not if you live in Nigeria; four is just the maximum.

I gave up disposable income for about 8 years, for climbing.

Then, for close to 2 years, I gave up climbing (aside from a couple of 2-month periods where I had more time on my hands) in order to devote my energies to a cause I believed in deeply.

I came back to climbing for a few months recently, but now I feel like I'm giving it up again in order to go to law school.

In regard to climbing: I've given up my perceptions of the absolute. I've given up my belief in the impossible. I've been given way more than I have been able to give away.

I don't believe I've sacrificed anything; yet I feel that I've received everything in return.

I gave up about 30 pounds. It was a good trade, but definitely requires sacrifice to maintain (see the "food vice" thread - I have none now).
