Ken
Even if that's true many sound comments for some to ponder.
Far too many good line to quote them all.
Interesting to look at who says what.
In climbing ,work and marriage its all a question of balance.
I knew when I was not marriage material, climbing was my wife.I also remember when that changed.
If you are looking for answers the ones who made it work have the key.
Happy people Know how to be happy
Great climbers Know what it takes to push a line
Angry, sad ,incomplete people know how to turn things to the negative
Note
I do not mean if you are not married you are incomplete.
I know many who from both sides of the fence exemplify the Best and the worst.

I would have a sit down with your girlfriend and explain your concern to her. Be honest about your climbing passion.

some of the simplest and best advice yet. in fact, maybe also try sharing this, to spur the conversation with her. if you cant do that, there are bigger issues, and it wont last anyway.

I completely agree with you, and I hope that some of my insights have helped. My life is much more rewarding because of the quality of my relationship with Betsy. They take work and compromise' although the compromise on one end sometimes yield greater rewards in other areas of one life.

It's a very good thread.

Cheers

I agree if canyonclimber is truly looking for good advice Ken has provided it. Take it and run with it. If an understanding can't be reached then it wasn't meant to be. Life is too short to not enjoy the ride the way you want to at this moment in time. Down the road you may find out you f'd up and should have gone a different direction, but that's just how the game is played. Hopefully, whenever that point down the road comes and you take a moment to look at yourself and your life you'll find yourself in a good place. That's when all those decisions that got you hurt, or into trouble all seem good because without them you might not be where you are.

Of course it is important to be attracted to your partner. MY POINT IS: Life is to short to be unhappy. Just because someone is hot is not a reason to stay with them. You have to be happy and physical attraction is not the primary reason to stay with someone. If physical attraction is the most important thing I would say the person is rather shallow

So I want to know more about CanyonClimber's situation. Is the issue a matter of spending more time with your girlfriend and hence less time on the rock, or is she expecting you to quit climbing all together for some specific reason?

I could understand reaching a compromise, e.g. devoting time to your significant other in leu of climbing 24/7, but I can't fathom being with someone who would expect me to give up something I'm really passionate about - or being unreasonable with the amount of time "allotted" for climbing.

I still like the idea of dating a climber, for many reasons. Climber guys are so hot, esp with shirts off.

Since I'm a climber now, any girl who I met would meet me as a climber.

Giving up climbing would alter the person I am, good or bad, who knows but I'd be different.

I have a theory that you can tell how someone will be in the sack by watching how they introduce themselves to and play with your pet.

Really? Did those three old guys puffing their chests in a most embarassing way post photos to go along with the name dropping, name calling and climbing resumes?
