First pitch of High Exposure.

Long explanation short, I am doing a paper for school in which I am looking for climbing phrases or slang that can also be used in non-climbing related conversations. An example would be something like the word "Beta", which has an obvious place in climbing lingo but can then be used in a sentence such as "Can I have the beta on that math test you took last period?" Other words that I have already thought of are: to flash, bomber, solid, epic (climbing sorta changed the meaning of this word), and pumped. Thanks for any suggestions.

climbers dinner in the high Sierra. Dave G. about to add some protein to the stew

"sketched" "sick" "heinous" "blown"

also at work when a climbing coworker asks about the status of a work project that I just completed, I'll respond "I sent that rig".

Looking down from Notchtop

"That's an eighty-five star dick-wrenching megaclassic!"

You can break that phrase down into parts.

Sugar Glider peeks out of her pouch.

"Stout", "Manky", and "Jingus" come to mind.

Doing the jump-across off The Mace. I never get tired of this climb. Photo by Wednesday Hugus.

I will second splitter, manky & jingus.

How about choss, whipper, & screamer.

Also the elusive crimper-jug & sloper-jug.

Manky! That's it. Now THAT is one that I have successfully transported outside the world of climbing. What is the origin of this - the Brits??? I doubt this was originally a climbing term, but correct me if I'm wrong. In any event, that's where I first heard it.

I usually add "assed" to it when using it outside climbing, as in "..that manky-assed such and such..."

In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth.

The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine. The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother's cubs, perhaps she would improve.

After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother. The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only "orphans" that could be found quickly, were a litter of weaner pigs. The zoo keepers and vets wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.
