According to a ranger it was not climber related and there was no accident. Some kids scrambled up high and got stuck, they called for help and were rescued and ticketed.
of course the headline will read Climber had to be rescued. Just like every other non climbing accident that takes place in climbing areas. If a hiker falls its a climber, if a kid scrambling up a rock and gets stuck its a climber, if a drunk redneck falls its a climber.

They ticket the kids? I wonder how a kid is going to pay a $500 ticket on their allowance? I've heard police cruisers call out on their loudspeakers at someone on the rock to get down unless they have a permit.

Yeah it was great when the ranger came around later and asked a spectator if they had a permit because they walked by the new signs. He didn't like when I asked him if the climbing regulations apply to spectators standing on the ground. They don't but I didn't want to be confrontational. Signs, Signs, everywhere the signs...
