| DeGette files bill to require feds to respect marijuana law In an effort to ensure new voter-approved amendments that legalize limited use of recreational marijuana in Colorado and Washington are not overrun by the federal government, Democratic U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette introduced bipartisan legislation Friday that aims to curtail such a scenario. "My constituents have spoken, and I don't want the federal government denying money to Colorado or taking other punitive steps that would undermine the will of our citizens," DeGette, of Denver, said in a statement. I don't think we see enough of this: Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman of Aurora, a staunch opponent of Amendment 64, supports the bill. "I strongly oppose the legalization of marijuana, but I also have an obligation to respect the will of the voters given the passage of this initiative, and so I feel obligated to support this legislation," Coffman said. Kudos to Representative Coffman. | FLAG |

| It will be really interesting to see who supports individual choices or monolithic government rule. Watch what your Representative does with this bill. If s/he is a Nazi, vote them out next time. | FLAG |

| This thread is awesome. "I know you are but what am I? "I know you are but what am I? You both appear to be a couple of petty children with your back and forth. How old are you guys? How's about you both just do this via PM so the rest of us that want to talk about the actual ISSUE don't have to sift through your bitching? | FLAG |

If s/he is a Nazi, vote them out next time. I can see a non-Nazi explanation as to why a Representative may not support forcing a federal response one way or the other to the Colorado initiative. One might conclude that putting the issue before federal lawmakers may get a result that few in Colorado would want(things like denial of federal funds), whatever they think about MJ and MJ laws. Just pointing out that possibility of unintended consequences seems pretty high to me here. | FLAG |

Couldn't resist responding here, to point out that by posting on that subthread, you continue it. When internet posting, we are in one of those unique situations where you actually have to jump off of the bridge to ask the other bridge-jumpers if they would jump just because someone else is jumping. Or maybe not? Maybe you could 'do that via PM', but hadn't thought of that? Anyway, welcome to the fall. Hope the water is deep and the sense of humor/irony remains intact. | FLAG |
