Free soloing is for the kids East Rock's time to shine

No helmet, no rope, no climbing shoes, no problem! |
So its a typical CT shit show... One fire fighter somehow 'fell' and broke his ankle, two others rescuers were injured by rocks being kicked off by the rescuers on top of the cliff. Yet the chief somehow had the following to say: |
What is going on in the video around 0:34? I can't tell if that is the guy who hurt himself or if he has no idea how to rappel... |
It seems like for having all those emergency vehicles and equipment there a similar rescue could have been done with no more than a climbing rack and 2 60m ropes. Am I wrong? |
Why were they trying to get to them from the bottom and the top? I don't get it... Either come in from the top or come in from the bottom. |

Proof that there's a difference between common sense/street smarts and book smarts. That or its not to difficult to get into Yale, i really dont know. No shoes, rope, or helmet soloing in an area with loose rock. clever devils |
Was it soloing or scrambling? ;-) |
watch the video, it was definitely not scrambling... |
"One firefighter fell and severely injured his ankle while he was reassuring the stranded climber." |

As a climber and someone who works in Fire/EMS I just want to let you guys know what were dealing with. Fire/rescue personnel generally have little knowledge in rock climbing techniques or equipment. Even firefighters trained in High Angle Rescue dont know how to use cams or stoppers. There is a reason climbing is banned at East Rock. There is huge rockfall potential, it attracts lots of non climbers as it is very close to a veeery urban area, and the local rescue personnel are not trained or equipped to handle rescue there. |
If the kids from Yale are free soloing because Alex H was on 60 minutes free soloing, things are going to get real bad. Watch, im calling it, this is just the start. o ya and God Bless America |

One 60 minute interview with Alex Honnold sparks a list of free soloing doom, called it...Disagree completely, Honnold is less liable then our culture's belief that no one is accountable for their own actions. It's no better than blaming Heavy Metal music for the increase in Satan worshiping or Bevis and Butthead for a kid deciding to burn his house down. Better yet... remember that women who sued McDonald's, and won, after she spilled it on herself and got burned because it was too hot. What is next? Should all climbing Videos be mandated to have a 20 minute "don't try this at home" disclaimer? Honnold is not responsible, nor is 60 minutes...the kid made a bad decision..that is all. |

If you bothered to do any research you would find out that Mcshitty's was warned on MANY occasions to lower the temp of it's coffee. This was a known problem BEFORE the woman gave herself 3rd degree burns when she spilled their coffee in her lap as she was trying to add some cream. From Wiki..." Liebeck was taken to the hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered third-degree burns on six percent of her skin and lesser burns over sixteen percent.[12] She remained in the hospital for eight days while she underwent skin grafting. During this period, Liebeck lost 20 pounds (9 kg, nearly 20% of her body weight), reducing her down to 83 pounds (38 kg).[13] Two years of medical treatment followed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebe…'s_Restaurants Just because you didn't hear the whole story on the evening news doesn't mean that your version is the truth. |

With this new found knowledge (to me) you have helped me take one small bit out of my ignorance and brought me one step closer to true enlightenment. For this I thank you. |
