Would like to build a free standing frame for my hangboard. Would like to also make it foldable. Any ideas? Jcomeau

You've seen these?

When I was about 20 I built a little free-standing scaffold that was as you describe...Two upside-down "T's" made of 2x6, a few 2x6 crossbars between the T's, and some more lumber on the 45 to keep the uprights upright. It was really heavy and tended to "rack", which is to say that it needed some x-bracing to keep it from lurching side-to-side. 25 years later I'm sure I could do better, but in general unless you built something pretty substantial (normally a building is used for this purpose), it's going to be hard to keep it from moving around. By the time you dealt with all the engineering issues, maybe the Blank Slate might solve your problem better? I've never seen a Blank Slate in person, though, can't vouch for them either.

Well I built it. Not foldable but super sturdy. Its basically half an aframe then a suport on the back side. Pretty stable Jcomeau
