At long last I'm able to post the photos of the first free ascent of Rosy Crucifixion.

Jim Erickson and Steve Wood

Jim Erickson 3

The photos were taken on Kodachrome 2 slide film with a Kodak Bantam, a tiny pocket-sized camera with bellows. 1/125 f8 The roll of film which you had to thread onto the spool by hand held 8 shots. This is all the film I had that day.

Jim was taking forever getting across the taverse, climbing back and forth in his usual methodical way. I finally spurred him across when I said "Come on back and let me have a go."

The other thing I remember best about that day was the incredible high we all felt celebrating that night at the Sink.

Great photos! Maybe post them to the route?

So that's what it looks like without chalk on it...

And without bolts!

Hey Ed, I see Jim is leading out on twins, was that common in eldo at that time? What was the reasoning?

Lets you see how good the shoes and gear we have now is.You can climb the classics in stealth rubber and still be amazed that they were done in work boots with the rope tied around the waist. Nice pics

The twin ropes were not common but I don't remember the reason for it. The shoes are RD's, a French shoe unavailable in Boulder at the time--we had to order them from an importer in New York, $15 plus $2 shipping. None of us used chalk back then.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
