This is the first formation of the Mini Fortress Area when hiking in from the south. After passing the Prairie Walls area there is a small section of forest with no established climbs, followed by a section of exposed and climbable rock. This is the First Fortress.

Expect to have the place to yourself. I've never seen anyone else climbing here. There are some great climbs but also a few drawbacks. Cactus seem to be unusually plentiful at the top of this formation which can make anchoring more of a hassle than it needs to be. Also, there is little protection from the sun. Those things said, there are some nice climbs that I find worth doing.

Getting There

See above. A short patch of forest north of Aroma Buttress separates First Fortress from the Prairie Walls Area.
