The climber found dead over the weekend after an apparent 100-foot fall in Gregory Canyon has been identified as Angus Britton Emmett Moloney, 22.
According to a news release from the Boulder County Coroner's Office, Moloney was from North Carolina.
Moloney, a graduate of Northern Virginia Community College, had been living in Montreal and working as an entrepreneur for a small web analytics company he founded, The Daily Star of Oneonta, N.Y., reports.
He was apparently in Colorado last week visiting friends.
Two hikers found his body on Sunday below a rock formation in the canyon known as the Fifth Pinnacle.
Officials said Moloney had been climbing without protective equipment, and appeared to have fallen on Saturday even though he was not found until the following day.
Moloney was reported missing Sunday morning, and a search party was set to begin right around the time the hikers found him.
His mother, Jean Palmer-Moloney, said in an interview with The Daily Star that the family is "stunned" by his death.
"Angus was a skilled climber, but he didn't have on a helmet," Palmer-Moloney said. "It was an accident. I think young men, especially in their 20s, feel invincible. But they have to know that they need to be safe."
