Hardrock Miner 5.8 CO : Silverton area : ... : Eureka Pillar
I'm told by a Silverton local that there's some loose rock in spots, but well worth climbing. I first learned of this route after seeing this article www.climbing.com/exclusive/features/245gold/index.htm>>>>> by Durango climber, Jared Ogden. He listed this route as a Grade III.More info TBA. ... [more] Browse More Classics in CO

Intriguing. Any better location or road info? From the old mill ruins, does 'looker's left' mean the Tower is farther up Eureka Gulch (west of the mill); above or below the road? Or does 'looker's left' mean that the Tower is even farther left (south), down the west side of the Animas River canyon? Is the tower visible in this old photo? photoswest.org/cgi-bin/imager?10062210+X-62210 or on this topo? www.1881.com/eurekatopo.pdf

Chris, I'm going to try to get up there in the next 3 days to climb these routes. Will take a camera and note pad to take down better directions ...and then post to MP! Stay tuned.

My apologies, but I did not climb this, so I'm awaiting more beta. Turns out I climbed the 5.9 at Goldrush last summer and not the 5.7 here. My apologies.

I am pretty sure I climbed Gold Digger a couple weeks ago. If so, as you are driving north into the Eureka mining area, the wall is looker's left as you pass over the bridge. Just after you pass over the bridge in the Eureka mining settlement, hike down the west side of the river a few hundred yards, then find the climb at the top of the scree field. The bolts are pretty hard to find, but they are there in the very back left of the shallow valley. I have some pictures taken from where we camped that might help. I will try to get them up soon.

Chris, if you are looking at the photo, you have the pillar can not be seen it is a few hundred yards further left. I would guess it to be close to the lot or pavilion area on the topo map you have pictured.
