So I've gone up through the Skylight ice climbing area the past several days and am appalled by the ethics that are taking place, all perpetrated my AMGA guides. They are apparently having some guide clinic so the place is very, very crowded. What is especially troubling with their ethics is they are setting up top ropes on all most all the climbs, and there aren't that many. They treat the area as if it was a bolted rock crag. The local guide company has deemed itself the master of Skylight and the San Juan mountains in general, and have ignored the past history of local climbing ethics in this area, because of the AMGA entitlement attitudes. They have bolted the area so you can top rope the ice climbs. This is what the park is for, but they've brought their park ethics elsewhere. I know the original owner would find this ethic troubling. Ice climbing is simple, you lead the climb bring up your delayer then rappel and repeat on another climb.
This is climbing, not politics, now go find yourself some ice that doesn't have anyone to piss you off on it.. and stop subjecting the world to your whining.
