Elevenmile Canyon

Looking to take some first timers out for some climbing.Never been to |

The guide book says its the best 5.5 you will climb. Better get to it early, I have seen people in line for this one. |

Pinecone Dome is some of the best beginner toproping in the canyon. You have a few sport routes and a few trad lines, most of which you can toprope from the sport anchors. In addition, it has a nice, shady grove of aspen trees at the base of the routes and you get afternoon shade. The approach is short and not steep at all, making revisiting the car easy. |

Having climbed that route many times, and many other 5.5 around the country. That assessment IMHO is pretty far off. |

Brian Pappas wrote:Thanks for all your help. But does anybody know of anything easy, bolt or trad that will work with a 60m rope and has finishing anchors to set up a toprope and let beginners climb? The other climbs mentioned are multipitch or over 60mI am pretty sure what Stitch already posted above (the Pinecone Dome) is what you are looking for as there are several top-ropes that are single pitch and should be plenty short for a 60m rope. Plus the Pinecone dome is really easy to get to and a pretty cool chunk of rock). |

Elevenmile Dome is littered with bolted moderate routes that aren't very sustained - so even much of the 9s will be fine for beginners. There is a bolted 5.5 as well. The rock is of good quality and the approach is right off the vehicle. |

don't forget the bivy sack, cause the approaches are heinous |

Brian, all of the Pinecone Dome sport anchors are well within a 60 meter rope length for toproping and are single pitch. What I used to enjoy was leading the trad line next to a sport anchor and finishing on the bolted belay. Then I would have a toprope suitable for the crack or the face under the anchor. Starting from the left there are at least three pairs of trad and sport routes you can climb like that. |
