Hi, I really want to practice some aid climbing(me being a novice) and would love some help on where to go. Does anyone know if the bolt ladder in el cajon mountain quarry is good and the beta of how to get there and where to park? I would love any possible info on anywhere in southern cal. I have looked at the big wall southern ca webpage. Is there any further info anyone could provide. Thanks so much. I would love to get some miles before I hop on Washington column and moonlight buttress.
The bolt ladder is excellent. All bolts minus a couple are new and bomber. It's set up to do in two pitches and great to practice hauling. To get there is pretty easy, just follow MP beta. Hike as if you were going to El Cajon mtn then when you get to power lines head left in the service road and its right there. Can't miss it. Route is in about the middle of the wall. Every time I was there, there was a fixed rope hanging from anchors at top of route. Have fun.
my impression of the place is cool. You gotto double that route though , even tripple it to feel more realistic. You can also run up and down that hill with a 75 pound piggy , then tripple the route....that will get you going.
