I was recently on the Edelweiss website and they have a product called the Diablo belay device. it looked interesting, but the description was lacking and i want to learn more about it. despite my best efforts i can't find any more information about the product anywhere. does anyone have one of them? maybe you can let me know what it's all about?

It looks kind of like this thing: Edelweiss THE 9, storrick.cnchost.com/Vertic… but with a Sticht plate built in as well.

I don't understand equipment manufacturers who create a fancy website but don't put up PDFs of the instructions.

Seen your post on the Diablo belay device. My buddy went to Switzerland and brought one back for a gift and I love it. The slot on the side allows a auto lock for any size rope, which works good for my 9.4mm rope which slips through gri-gri. The auto lock works really good for those rope hangers (girlfriends). Rappel is super smooth. If you look at where the carabiner goes through the bottom hole, there isn't much room for play with the device. I feel like in maybe a awkward fall it could lever the device and shear the carabiner. It's suspect and I've been watching it pretty close. I use a mammut pear carabiner and it seems to have more play. As for buying one my friend said they won't hit the streets until December 2010 in Switzerland.

It was designed by this crazy American that owns a climbing shop in Sisteron France which is near Cesus. CALLED BLUE LIGHT. This is the only store I have seen that carries them. But this is the belay device from the gods it is auto blocking for any size ropes including double or twin ropes. It belays from above and lowers the climber when belaying from above. I have used almost all belaying devices but this is the only one i will use any more its full proof and there is no moving parts. good luck getting your hands on one its worth the worth more than gold. I payed about $30 usd.
