BETA PHOTO: Looking up at ES-2
Three easy 5.6 routes up 45 degree sand paper. ES-2 is 2 pitches. About 25m, so bring a 50m+ rope to get down. The guide book has these as 20m pitches, but my 50m rope barely got us to the bottom. All three routes are very similar: straight shot up a 45-60 degree slope with course sandpaper rock. Some sections are friction climbs, and there are plenty of opportunities to get a rope hung up.
The bottom belay is a narrow ledge with waist level bolts to tie in. Nice view and it gets sun so it stays warmer.
Getting there is the hardest part. Head up to Far Side, following the trail around towards the left side of gritscone. After a few minutes the trail will fork, head to the left up the hill. In a couple more minutes it'll take a hard left with a small overgrown trail continuing straight. Take the overgrown trail along the ridge past the drop off on the right.

Middle route, two pitches. Nice view at the top but the second anchor can't see the first and there's some traffic noise from the freeway so you might have a hard time hearing partners. Second pitch has even more vegetation to hang a rope on.See the area description for more information, all three are very similar....[more] Browse More Classics in WA
