Anyone use them for climbing shoe resoles? Tired of shipping mine out west so was thinking of checking them out this time. Comments/concerns?

I have taken several pair of climbing shoes to Eastside for resole. They are OK for straight forward half sole replacemnt when the shoes have minimum wear. I say be leary if you have extensive rand repair needed... they never seemed to quite get the quality of repair I wanted for the price when extensive rand repair was needed.... There are places well worth the extra wait of shipping time (and cost)that do great work when your shoes require heavy rand repair.

I had them do half sole replacements on a pair of shoes recently and they did a decent job. I was happier with their work than I was with Rubber Room in Bishop.
Keep in mind that their lead times have been over 6 weeks. You may not get your shoes back any earlier than sending them out of town. The storefront is only open a few hours a week as well. I ended up having to wait an extra five days for my shoes because I didn't make it to their shop during the two hours they were open the Saturday after they called me.

Ditto on what Burt says but overall it was good enough to make me choose a local biz over an unknown. She's motivated to learn to do better resoles so try em out and give feedback on what you dont like. BTW, hit up Mermaid Cafe next door for the best coffee in Madison.

Thanks for the info. I've got a few pairs that need work (some in need of serious rand work) so maybe I'll just drop off one or two at first and see how they turn out. I've only ever used R&R and have never been disappointed. I don't like the sound of waiting 6 weeks for a questionable quality repair.. might as well try to support the local biz though. Can't come back worse than they are now!

They are very receptive to fixing any issues afterwards. I should make sure to say that. Nick is right on as well. They want feedback so they can better meet your needs. On most of the pairs I took in I only had to wait about 2.5 weeks so I have no complaints about that. They did have more hours that they were open at that time. I haven't taken a pair of shoes in in about 1.5 years at this point. I had them repair a pair of 5.10 Pitons and Moccasins, a pair of older 5.10 Razors, a pair of La Sportiva Mura's, and finally a pair of Boreal Aces.

Found this old thread while looking up my preferred resoler, so I'm offering an update:

Eastside Shoe Repair in Madison (which Burt recommends above, who I used to use as well) closed up shop a number of years ago. One of the employees opened Janssen Shoe Repair, but they closed in 2020.

I've been working with Goodfield Shoe Repair near Peoria, IL recently. David, the shoe repairer, is from Baraboo, though he and his wife relocated to Peoria area to take care of his wife's folks. He and his wife, Sheila, are hoping to move back to the Baraboo area in the next few years. They do resole work for a number of Chicagoland gyms. Super friendly, down-to-earth folks. Way closer than shipping out West.

Do you know what the turnaround time is like there? The added shipping price + time is kind of a bummer for most other resolers, so it'd be awesome to have another (somewhat) local option

Turnaround time depends on how busy they are. You could probably call anytime and ask, they will shoot you straight. It's the kind of place where you'll get David or Sheila on the phone personally. But it's just the two of them, so if they get a big pulse of shoes, turn-around time may slow for a week.

Have you sent shoes here? How is the resole quality/ rubber quality?

They did my LS Otakis and my fiancee's LS Finales (toe cap repair as well). A little pricey but the quality of the work was excellent and they came back fast. TBH the cost of the rand repair and resole on the finales was not worth it, but for more expensive shoes I think the value is there. I will have them do my Otakis again and TC Pros when it's time.

FWIW they use a super fat slap of rubber. Great for my Otakis because they're what I use to climb in the gym and they wear quickly.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
