Dear Friends,

The Niagara Glen is the first place I ever climbed outdoors. It's a beautiful limestone bouldering area near Buffalo New York, situated right on the Niagara River, not far from the famous Niagara Falls. There are hundreds of classic lines spanning the grades. Some really accomplished boulders cut their teeth at "The Glen," and whether you are new to the boulders or on the cutting edge of the sport, this area is worth saving.

The glen is a popular hiking area and local party zone, and climbers have often taken the rap for garbage and graffiti left by other user groups. No, we do not build bonfires and smash bottles underneath famous v10's! Definitely not us. Unfortunately, the cliffhanger image is hard to shake, and recently the parks commission has recommended closing the Glen to climbing entirely.

PLEASE HELP US.

This area of the country does not have much climbable rock, and the locals who climb at the Glen love it fiercely. The thought of loosing this area brings me close to tears. It is so special.

If you have time to help, this will take 1 to 5 minutes of your time. Please go to this link:

Follow the instructions under "Niagara Glen Needs Your Help." There is a form letter that you can copy and paste into your email. It's very easy. I had to click "read more" to get to the form letter.

Thank you for helping to preserve access,

Kayte

See Climbing Magazine #259, Sustained column for more on this. Trouble has been brewing here for some time.
