A while back I began to feel some tightness and pain in my forearms after climbing. I took a month off. I started climbing again and I've developed a dull pain that has been constant in my armpit not allowing me to lift it without caution. My shoulder is tender as well as My bicep. There has also been a tenderness and tingle down the bottom of my arm to my fingers. What could this possibly be?? It is just my left arm, my right arm is fine. Thanks!

Have you ever had a neck injury of any sort?

See a doctor. An orthopedist, if you can. You will get a better diagnosis than on the Internet.

Provided you haven't had a significant cspine impact/injury, you should be able to go to a clinic and have them do Spurling test. It's relatively straight forward. Doesn't rule out anything, but if you get a response at least you'll have a better idea if scans and more invasive work needs to be considered.

Hi nathanael,
It might be tendonitis or just a bad muscle pull. To prevent the pain from worsening you must consult orthopaedic and sports associates of long island and get the required tests done. An orthopedic will be able to help you out better.

Sounds like a cervical spinal injury of some sort. I'm going through the same thing, one arm pain/tingling from shoulder to hand. It can begin with neck pain or not.

See a really good doctor. Quality varies quite a bit in orthopedists. Good luck!

Take any internet advice for what it's worth of course but a simple visit to a chiropractor might be all you need.

Yes, I can not explain the tinglings, but it has subsided and now there is only a noticible pain in my bicep and armpit. Once in a while the back of my hand will feel very tight. I pray to God it's not a spinal injury, I haven't had any ground falls or head injuries, but I have started kinda sorta climbing hard with pretty much no base training. So I am going to go to my doctor today and get her opinion. My best guess so far is a pulled bicep and possible lighty pintched nerve? At least that's what I want to believe. I think that if it was a severe injury I would be in a little more pain. Thanks very much for the help.

how'd it go at the doctor?

Well, I scheduled an appointment, but in the hour up to the appointment all discomfort disappeared completely. Which is great I guess! Just made a doctor visit impossible. I think I may of just tweaked it out. I found some dynamic stretches and as long as I do wrist rotations, shoulder rotations and arm crosses dynamic I can for a bit after warming up. Doing these stretches also makes the pain go away. I can't explain the tingles I had at first. But for now I am trying to keep it warmed up extremely well before using it at all. And it has worked so far. If it persist I will definitely see a sports doctor though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
