Check NPS for Closures

This is the middle formation in the cluster of spires: Cornflake, Duckbill, and Kara. Duckbill features 3 routes that are bound to test your nerves. Only one of the routes is fully bolted, the 5.10 Cowboy Fever.

Routes range from 60' - 85' and mostly consist of granite slab techniques.

Descent: Rappel from a couple slings at the top. The slings are fixed by an old piton.

Getting There

This cluster of rocks is the furthest climbable formations southeast of the Kiosk (while remaining in the South Seas Area). The guidebook mentions that the cluster is about 530 ft S-SE from the climber sign-in register.

Once up the face, traverse left and upward to a fixed bolt. Continue upward on a crystal face until you come to a horizontal crack that will take a couple pieces of gear. The easiest path from here is straight up the arete and to the summit....[more]   Browse More Classics in SD
