The Park Boulder located in the South Main Town Sq...

Description

The town of Buena Vista now has three artificial boulders open for public use in and around the river park and the new South Main neighborhood. The park boulder is located in the square across from Eddyline Brewpub. Two more boulders are located in the Rock Garden Boulder Park just north of South Main. These boulders were constructed by Ian Glas of Integrated Design Solutions in Gunnison, CO. The natural lines climb very much like real granite. Natural problems will be listed here; set plastic problems will change every couple few months.

Getting There

From US Highway 24, turn onto east main street (left if coming from the north, right if from the south). Drive through BV's historic downtown and one stop sign. Just after the road turns to gravel, turn right at the Community Center onto South Main St. To get to the Rock Garden Boulder Park, follow South Main Street to where it intersects with Swift Street. Park on the street at this intersection and walk east on Swift Street (cobblestone). You'll be able to see the boulders at this point.

For the Park Boulder, follow South Main St until you hit the stop sign at the square. Turn right and park near the boulder/ Eddyline Brewpub.

These boulders are absolutely amazing! The "natural" boulder problems are great and super well thought out.

Miles of real stone within walking distance, trails, and the Arkansas river, not to mention the Brew Pub/Restaurant across the street!

There are five new problems up in the last week. 3 new problems in the Boulder Garden on the bigger of the 2 boulders. On the west face: green holds VO+, brown holds V0 or V1 sit start. On the overhung, south-facing prow, the tan hold route goes at V2-V3 on fun pockets.

On the park boulder, tan holds on the west face are V0/ V1 sit start. Also a new brown hold problem- sit start at the foot of the prow with left hand on east face sloper, right hand on west face sloper. Move right and follow holds to the lip on the east side; V4?

Here's a sampler of the new problems currently up. We just bought a bunch of new e-grips holds- jugs and slopers mostly- so they're definitely fun quality at this point.
