Ropes left right under the top of p2 of Breezy on Wind Tower 6/6/15 due to T-storm and the rope being stuck. If you happen to get them please give me a call - 203-727-8205.

Thanks!

Here we go again...

Best idea would be to head back out and grab them yourself. Should be nice in the morning. Otherwise best of luck.

I'm headed out tomorrow morning but I didn't know if anyone grabbed em after the storm was over.

My wife is headed to the general area tomorrow morning. If she sees them and is willing maybe she'll recover them. Obviously can't make any promises. In the future its best not to leave gear if you don't intend on truly abandoning. Wait out the storm and recover your gear.

Were you unable to descend via the walk off? Probably could have ascended the walk off as well.

Why is it that a guy who leaves a couple ropes for a pretty legitimate reason gets lectured yet people who just forgot their gear in a parking lot or at the base of a climb don't on this forum?

^^^^ ... purely because people like their shot of superiority ... probably the same people criticizing a self-rescue involving a modest judgment call ... an opportunity to stand on the backs of others

Ok - better get my morning coffee now that I've over reacted

[dang - already quoted below ... too late to delete] ;)

The OP merely said "if [someone] happens to get them" - that's hardly a request or expectation of being "cleaned up after."

What the OP actually said

"Ropes left right under the top of p2 of Breezy on Wind Tower 6/6/15 due to T-storm and the rope being stuck. If you happen to get them please give me a call."

What some people "thought" the OP said

"Left my ropes on a climb because i was lazy and for no other reason at all. Please make a special, out of way, inconvenient trip to get them for me right this very second as I do not plan to go out there ever again. I expect you to drive them to my house and return them to me, whereupon you will receive no compensation for your effort or even a thanks."

This is explain most of the rude, head scratching responses people make on mountain project.

Well these posts do get hilarious at some point. I know it sucks and for that I apologize Dan, however, just because a little rain or hail roll through isn't exactly a legit reason to out right leave your gear. Wait out the storm and get you stuff. It's actually pretty simple. Obviously an injury is completely different, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Please let's hold ourselves accountable and recognize that gear left in such examples is a choice.

Gear left in parking lots is also frustrating and no less embarrassing, but it's a bit different considering it wasn't left on purpose. As such it's not typical to see many follow up comments outside of "hope you get your gear back".

This route in particular is especially hilarious considering its 5 minutes from the car. Its Eldo and five minutes from a town. Not to mention it's a walk off, and pending the location of "stuck" hiking up is at least a worthy option to consider?

Best of luck Dan. Hope someone returns your gear. If my wife picked it up I'll be sure to let you know.

Again, it doesn't appear the OP was asking for any help, nor did he say he wasn't going back for the ropes, and never said he wasn't going to use the walk-off. In light of all that, no one really has any moral high ground to make pronouncements about was is or is not a "legitimate" reason to leave gear. And people have been struck by lightening while standing next to their car, so it's irrelevant how far the route is from the car.

So does your seeming inability to write a post without a holier than thou attitude that is usually smeared with just a touch of dickishness. There are probably 30 readers of this post -- myself included -- who agree with you in principle that the guy should go get his own gear back, but most of us just leave it alone without feeling the need to piss in the OP's oatmeal. Would it really hurt to be a little nicer around here CJC?

Cornelius Jefferson wrote: What an odd thing to say. Of course he was asking for help. He straight out said he LEFT the ropes in the thread title.
Again, saying you left something is not the same as asking you to go get it for him. As he already stated, he was planning on grabbing in the AM. You've chosen to misconstrue what he said so you can have something to bitch about. I am quite certain he would be thrilled if you did not get near his ropes and simply left them until the AM. All he was asking if come decency, if someone stumbles on them before I get there in the morning, leave them there or get in touch with me.

I agree, and again not trying to be a jerk or holier than hell. Dan, I apologize if that's how my comment came off.

Marc, proximity to a vehicle is absolutely relevant. As one can sit inside their vehicle in relative comfort and safety to wait out most weather.

What's with the lectures? If you have no intention of helping the guy retrieve his ropes, then don't clutter his thread with unsolicited, self-righteous admonishments.

Hey everyone,

I went back today to get them and a ranger had already got them for me and left them at the visitor center.

It was my first time at Eldo and I didn't really care to be stuck up there with thunder and rain so I bailed. I posted this thread to see if anyone had gotten my ropes and were looking to return them. I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to get the ropes, but I know if I found them I would check MTN Proj and the visitor center to see if someone posted about them.

Thanks for those who gave advice,

Dan

If people were nicer on MP the threads would be half the length and not very interesting. Everyone would agree on one method to tie in or build an anchor. It would be like a Christian dating site.

You're doing a fine enough job of that yourself. Don't be a jerk.

You're right our sport has gone downhill. In "the good ol' days" one would not have to post essentially saying, "Please don't steal my ropes, we had a legitimate reason for leaving them, and I will return for them tomorrow when it is safer, and if you have already stolen them, here is my number to do the right thing."

This man did not ask for your help or criticism, why must you feel the need to flex?

Save you're rants for the noob that says, "I got a red cam stuck deep in a "way too tight" placement, and left it on the second pitch of Climb XYZ. I didn't feel like dealing with it, so please go climb that route and retrieve my gear for me."

If you can't understand the difference in these two scenarios, you are as dumb as you are rude.

I think we should all leave Dan alone and go over and ridicule the guy who left his shoes and a chalk bag at Grocery Store wall.

I don't know dude, I feel like shit gets pretty weird on those, and they're probably more judgemental than this forum.
