I do mostly sport climbs and take advantage of the work, bolts, chains of those who set and maintain the routes.

I have neither the knowledge nor inclination to do this work but greatly appreciate those who do. Is there a singular group who does this, or is it mostly location based. I'd like to send annual/monthly donation to help keep the quality gear maintained.

Thanks, mostly climbing at exit 38 and vantage if that narrows it down.

Jason,

I don't know a lot about it, but here's what I do know:

Bolting and rebolting is usually done by locals. Sometimes out of their pockets and sometimes funded by ASCA.

If you don't know who does the work locally, you could donate to this group:

Yes what Frank said. the ASCA will use your money and send bolts and chains to the local guides/anchor replacer people to get the job done. They are legit and your money goes to updating the old crap.

+1 to ASCA donations. They provide a ton of supplies and SS bolts for replacement work all over the country, so if you donate to them, rest assured the bolts the money bought will make its way to re-bolters in your area.

Keep in mind that route developers are normally developing routes out of their own pockets. ASCA bolts and hardware should only be used to replace aging hardware. There is also the Anchor Replacement Initiative but I almost never see their work or their hardware (ASCA Hardware is marked).

Correct, ASCA is only for replacing bolts, not adding new routes. But the OP specifically mentioned maintaining bolts, which would be the ASCA.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
