Description Suggest change

This formation lies a quarter-mile west of Mt. Grossvogel and faces southwest. Sun most of the day.

Getting There Suggest change

The closest approach is by hiking in from Real Hidden Valley, via that outside trail going past Houser Buttress and Zombie Roof. Continue northwest to skirt past the massive Arid Pile on its left (southwest) side, eventually crossing a dirt road that's only for park staff use, then past the left (southwest) side of Mount Grossvogel as well. Aim for the tall rocky hilltop just ahead to the northwest (Laurel's Nose). Doggie Rock will be at its flat front side base, at the mouth of the Candlestein Pass where one could see the south side of Jimmy Cliff about 300 yards to the north.

Alternatively, one could also park at the Atlantis Wall and Jimmy Cliff common pullout at the end of Lost Horse Road, then hike southeast past Atlantis Wall and cut around the east end of Jimmy Cliff. Takes longer this way though, unless one plans to climb at some of those walls along the way in or out. This way will eventually meet and cross a road, then keep walking south hugging the formations on the hill to the west. You will pick up a faint trail when you reach the end of the formations, walk around the point and you will find the small, flat corridor in which this formation lies.
