BETA PHOTO: Dickies Cliff & Gnat Man Crag looking SW

Description

This crag offers a little of everything with and an easy approach.

Getting There

From the Red Spring parking lot, hike north west up a hill on an obvious trail towards Cannibal Crag, stay on the trail hiking up the flat valley, head towards the deep red rock and the keyhole at the top of the ridge. Dickies Cliff is the last pink colored rock formation with brown varnish patches sitting on the south side of the trail at valley level before the deep red colored rocks take over the landscape. There is a Forest Service wood marker with a "7" in front of the cliff. If you start hiking up steeper terrain towards the keyhole, you have gone too far. The total distance from the Red Spring parking lot is about 1/2 mile (15 minutes). The rock can also be identified by a flat bench that runs along it's base.

A bulge crux leads to pumpy terrain. This classic crack is on the right side of Dickies Cliff. Head up easy terrain to a steep crack with an initial roof. Throw in some pro and some jams to negotiate the roof. Above the roof you will find a steep crack with good pro, good jams, and good edges. Near the top the climbing eases off. I think this climb is about 80 feet high.Descent: Head right / west and 4th class down the gullies on the right side of the cliff. The third narrow gully on climb...[more]   Browse More Classics in NV
