Access Issue: Ice is on roadcuts off of Hwy 151.
Details
Note that walking or parking on the highway shoulder is illegal. To approach the ice legally, stay beyond the 2 foot berm on the edge of the shoulder.
Description
The ice here is on roadcuts off of Hwy 151, between the towns of Platteville and Dickeyville. There are two main areas where ice comes in: the Northern Slab is a 100 foot wide section of WI2-3 ice with several possible lines going at similar difficulty, and the Southern Ice is a series of over a half dozen steep flows on a vertical road cut going at WI4 and harder.
Getting There
From Madison, get on Hwy 151 towards Dodgeville, and go 72 miles. You will pass exits for Plattevile 5 minutes before the ice shows up. The slab is across from Airport Road, and the vertical ice is a couple miles down. Driving up from Dubuque, it's a little over 10 miles from the big bridge on the Mississippi.
