Diablo Canyon, FLAT TIRE ALERT:

FYI: On the drive in to Diablo, about 0.1-0.2 mile past Well #12 (the second well building on the right, I think), there is a 100-200-foot long expanse of roadbed that contains a large amount of rusted steel wire or fencing material eroding out of the base course. Mainly on the right side (as you're driving down to the crag). Don't hit those rusty rods sticking out of the road; they're thick enough to cause a flat.

It may be that the steel was laid down as erosion control many years ago? But now it's creating a real driving hazard. BLM or the city is being irresponsible for letting this persist.

Umm not positive but I am pretty sure that is reservation land...

I think it's maintained by the Santa Fe govt; it got hit hard by the rain a month or so ago and needs to be graded but - like climbing - you better understand your risks.
