Extremists Guide II? |
|
Wolverine is publishing a new Devils Lake guide. Met the guy who is putting it all together and he showed me all of his notes, etc. for the upcoming guidebook. |
|
The Wolverine guide will be pretty cool...although it reportedly won't detail every eliminate route at the lake (too many IMO) the layout and descriptions promise to be much easier to read and more informative. |

I've sent an e-mail to Wolverine Publishing to see if they would confirm or deny this. -GlennI heard back from Wolverine this morning. They are working on a Devil's Lake guidebook. It should be out in the spring. -Glenn |

I heard from Wolverine this morning, and the new guide is due Fall of 09. The author is Chris Gambill from Chicago. |

I think I ran in Chris on the east about a month or so ago. He was asking for my opinion on some climbs and stated that he was only allowed one 4 star rating in the new book and only like two 3 stars. I though that was pretty lame. I will be getting the new Swartling/Mayer book. |

I really dont know. He did not specify who or why. But the comment really turned me off to that guide book. |
|
Here you go Chris. I've never tried the problem but I remember looking at the boulder a couple times. |

I have a selection list going for the new Extremists Guide. I just gotta get some sucker to help me do the layout. Any suckers out there? |

If it's like the RRG guide, let's hope the book includes many interviews and tidbits of climbing history other than the CMC version of life at the lake. Any 'clubbers been approached for personal interviews and scandelous stories for publication? (saved for Extremist's Guide-A Suckers revision?) |
|
Send it Rhoads, write a new guide. I will help anyway I can. |
|
Wait like a guide for routes? I thought the lake was only for bouldering... huh. Live and learn i guess. |

sweatpants wrote:Wait like a guide for routes? I thought the lake was only for bouldering... huh. Live and learn i guess.'Noob!! I'm sure you jest. But then again, the Father of Bouldering, John Gill sure did alot of highball death routes here, and in some funky shoes or rugged boots too. |

Not sure if this is the same dude or even if this website is being updated at all. Anyone know what/where this boulder is?The boulder is the Nipple up at the Old Sandstone Area. Don't use my website as an indicator of progress. I haven't uploaded anything there for a few years. The book has turned out to be a pretty daunting task, but it's coming along well. I'm really hoping to finish it up early this summer. |

Interview with Jeff Achey of Wolverine Publishing
"For next spring [2016], Jay Knower is authoring the first full-color guide to the history-rich climbing at Devils Lake, Wisconsin. That book will have killer action photography, and blend old-school and new-school by including some of the best local sport climbing." |
