Hey everybody,

I'm trying to find decent information for getting off Astroman, the North Dome Gully? Does anyone know of any good written description/ topo for getting off the thing? I did it once before but we got super lost and it took forever, does anyone have any advice or resources?

Thank you!

I remember the SuperTopo guide has a pretty good description and topo. I have no first hand knowledge, though I've looked at it a few times.

supertopo.com/climbing/thre…

pieces of advice from friends who have done it: "keep going, further than you think." and "the descent is on the OTHER side of the gully, so you have to cross a steeper section of rock"

alternatively, if you have a few days, solo royal arches and do the descent. (~4-6 hrs total)

hope that helps, have fun. jw

I wonder if it would be worth the NPS posting a sign or two at least at the drop down spot, just to avoid confusion leading to epics or worse? Or does this not really happen much?

If you get into down climbing or descending anything more than 3rd class you probably descended too early . There's a lot of those little carabiner signs like for Five open books area , and the approach to Cathedral spires , I wonder why they don't have something like that at the appropriate drop down area of North dome gully ...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
